Robert Rankin has really created a set of characters who never disappoint. Predictably of John and Jim is what sets them apart from regular heros and makes them so unique.
Typical hilarious Rankin humor - awesome stuff
Some of this book reminded me of the worst sections of "Ulysses".Robert Rankin is not James Joyce. Bored me towards the middle.
It started off well, but Rankin meandered off into copying a prose style used by Jack Kerouac at one stage which meant my trusty had to jump several pages of pretentious tedium. It did get back on track eventually, but for me the damage had already been done. If I wanted to read spontaneous prose by the beat poets I would buy it, but I resented having a slab of it thrown at me by Rankin. Not one of his better efforts as far as I am concerned.
